The life of Jonah teaches man’s disobedience can lead to a clear picture of the love of God. Thurston Garrett joins episode 15 for part of a two-part series. Join us as we read from the first chapter of Jonah in the Old Testament.
Thurston Garrett discusses God’s Love
One of the essential things in your Christian life is to know that God loves you. This is important because of the issues that we face in life from time to time. A lost person that does not know God has probably heard John 3:16. God loves lost people as much as he does those who are saved.
If you understand that God has a plan for your life and that he loves you when the bad stuff happens, you know he will take care of you. The life of Jonah is a good example of God’s love.
The life of Jonah and Ninevah
Ninevah was historically thought to have been established by Nimrod. We think of Nimrod as a derogatory term. However, Nimrod was the leader that most scholars believe was directing the construction of the tower of Babel. The city of Ninevah is a result of his rule. Citizens of Ninevah were evil.
According to Thurston Garrett, the people of Ninevah were known to be bad people. Those who were conquered by those of Ninevah would commit suicide in place of being dominated. Jonah knew of those people who lived in the city of Ninevah.
The life of Jonah and Discipline
Podcast 15 will also discuss how God uses discipline in the life of Jonah. Jonah, in disobedience, attempts to travel in the opposite direction of Ninevah and ventures towards Spain. God gave an order to Jonah, and Jonah did not like the command.
As stated in the podcast, Jonah did not like the people of Ninevah. When we are in disobedience of there will be a price to be paid. Be sure that you listen to all of podcast 15 to hear the entire conversation with Thurston Garrett.
